Hi there!
My name is Ed East. I am a British guitarist and producer. Most notably in my career, I have been songwriter and guitarist in the band Chikinki, ran a recording studio in Berlin for ten years, producing records for international artists such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Art Brut, and working alongside such talents as The Strokes' producer Gordon Raphael, among many others.
With the launch of 4D Pedals, we have released a range of unique effects pedals (Fuzz, Distortion, Overdrive) for electric guitar, which focus my two decades of experience as a music professional into three little awesome tone bombs!
The concept for 4D PEDALS was born in 2020 and over the course of three years, we refined the sound of the effects to pinpoint the sweet spot I would always seek out on a pedal, where tone, sustain, gain and punch all meet at that magical point and unlock the fretboard for you to start riffing. My holy grail of tone, so to speak.
But really, the journey of 4D PEDALS began in 2001, when my band signed our first major recording contract with Universal/Island records. From that point, I began a journey of learning in terms of listening to and obsessing over guitar tone. Whether in a live situation on tour, or in the studio, I put in my 10,000 hours of getting to know and understanding what constitutes good tone and why. And I bring that experience to the table with 4D PEDALS. And this is what I call the vital 4th dimension: Awesome Tone.
Although in the future we have more complex effects circuits planned, with tone and gain controls, the initial star series represents single-volume-control pedals. Again this draws on my live performance experience: on stage there is very little time for adjusting settings on pedals, and even if one has the time, one loses that vital moment of connection with the audience. The experienced guitarist knows how to control gain and tone by adjusting volume and pickup selection on the guitar.
So I wanted these pedals to be the workhorse that just gets on with its job with elegance and cool. The “little black dress in the wardrobe”!
